Marty Naul
Drummer
“Marty Naul is a native Texan, born in Ft. Worth and living there as well as Midland and Houston. His musical career started the usual way, playing in various “garage” bands. Marty joined Duane and Bill Massey in Oz Knozz (pronounced oz ka-nozz’) in May of 1971, when original drummer Jack Alford decided to pursue another profession. Marty and Duane went to high school together in Houston and attended college together at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Tx., where they both majored in Music. Marty has been part of every Oz Knozz project since he joined in ’71, including live shows and recording projects, such as “Ruff Mix” in 1975, the EP in 1981, the long-awaited CD “10,000 Days & Nights” in 2008, and the Grammy-Nominated 2012 CD release, “True Believer”. Like most of the other “OK” members, Marty has played in numerous other projects, both with and without Oz personnel involved, and has many years of experience playing and recording a variety of musical styles. However, it is Oz Knozz that seems to be the “glue” that holds this group of musicians together. During the years from the late 1970’s to the 1990’s and on into the 21st Century, Marty and Oz Knozz did extensive touring, opening for the likes of Peter Frampton, The Producers, Bloodrock, Canned Heat, Supertramp, Kansas, Point Blank, Judas Priest, Spinal Tap, Mark Farner, Jackyl, UFO, Queensryche, Tesla, and many others. During this time, Oz Knozz also headlined many of their own shows, at one time traveling with a full concert entourage, including a portable 32′ x 32′ stage, concert PA and lighting system, and a large road crew to set everything up!In March of 2012, Oz Knozz was signed to a Multi-Year, Multi-Album contract with Prog Rock Records and on June 5th, released the CD “True Believer”. In the fall of 2012, “True Believer” was listed on the Grammy Nomination Ballot as many as NINE TIMES in SIX different categories! Late in the summer of 2012, Marty, along with other members of Oz Knozz, was inducted as a Full Voting Member into The Recording Academy of America, the governing body that oversees the Grammy Awards. Marty is also a member of ASCAP and Sound Exchange, a Performance Rights Organization (PRO) that collects performance royalties in the Digital Domain. In November of 2012, Marty was endorsed by and uses SilverFox drum sticks. In June of 2014, Marty auditioned for John Sellers, a well-known singer/songwriter/pianist in the Praise/Worship music genre’, and Marty was asked to be the drummer on John’s next CD/DVD project, as well as being the live drummer for the follow-on tour! The album will be produced by none other than Mike Deasy.
